Title: Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Location: Canton, Ohio

LeaderStat Premier has been retained to assist Altercare of Ohio to locate qualified candidates for the role of Chief Nursing Officer. Reporting to Altercare’s President and Chief Medical Officer the Chief Nursing officer will lead Altercare’s clinical operations into the next generation of post-acute care. The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for oversight, evaluation, and coordination of clinical operations within Altercare. In addition, this person will play a key role in continued development of ACO and acute care alignment relationships and enhancement of the emerging bundled payments.

The Chief Nursing Officer provides intensive strategies to improve outcomes including CMS Five Star Quality Measures and hospital re-admission rates. They will also participate in developing strategies to enhance physician services within Altercare. The CNO should be familiar with post-acute and acute care services and be able to effectively align Altercare’s clinical programs with its acute care partners with a capacity for the adoption of clinical protocols and streamlining nursing operations. The CNO must thrive in establishing and sustaining robust alignment in continuums of care.

Altercare is a family-owned rehabilitation and skilled nursing company with headquarters in North Canton, Ohio. The company operates 21 rehabilitation and nursing care locations in Ohio and one Michigan.   The average daily census is 1,550 and annual admissions exceed 5,000. Key Objectives for success:

  • Accountable for the structures and processes that support nursing operations.
  • Articulates the Organizations vision and priorities, and is accountable for outcomes for patient care, quality, and safety.
  • Provides effective communication between nursing and operations management
  • Leads improvement initiatives in emerging clinical areas.
  • Sustains current ODH results, and 5 Star Quality measures while improving those facilities not performing to Altercare standards.
  • Achieves DON retention by establishing a vision for programs which support the nursing profession.
  • Promotes technology to drive efficiency and decision making in clinical operations.
  • Promotes an enhanced specialty physician service model.
  • Ability to implement and incorporate multiple hospital protocols to increase the acute care   alignments. 
  • Collaborates successfully with ancillary provider services.

Knowledge requirements:

The CNO is expected to demonstrate knowledge in the field of nursing as well as long-term care and acute care. This requires the ability to think strategically and develop long-term relationships with acute care partners. The CNO is able to effectively use technology to provide partners with evidence based outcomes.

Other requirements:

  • Active Ohio RN license or the ability to obtain one.
  • A BSN or BS in healthcare administration is required.
  • A Masters degree in a healthcare related field is preferred.
  • Experience in Long-Term Care and Acute Care desired.
